"Cathedral"

The form of the spinal muscles in a woman’s back is very close to that of the clustered piers or columns in Gothic Architecture. If you consider the history of the golden mean and the very long relationship between human proportions and classical architecture, then the irony of the patriarchal Church having this female foundation comes into focus. This bronze sculpture is from the maquette for the life-size sculpture. That sculpture, which has not been made yet, will be a combination of marble, for the figure, and bronze, for the capital and arches above.
