"Torsos #1 through #5" and "Torso Haiku"
This series of low-relief sculptures is part of a continuing development of bas-relief carving that I've been experimenting with for some time. Working with light and shadow is the essence of this form of carving as it walks the tightrope stretched between drawing and 3-dimensional sculpture. So far, the extreme edge of this series has been "Torso Haiku" which is a study of how far it's possible to minimize line and shadow while still evoking a powerful image, akin to that form of poetry.
